A long-time client in Moorestown, New Jersey, reached out to the Simkins and Son’s Renovations and Repairs team to revamp their second-floor layout with the intent of improving privacy and functionality. Their wish was to create a separate hallway, obviating the need for passing through one bedroom to reach the other. A substantial part of an existing walk-in closet was strategically modified, decreasing its size to accommodate the new hallway.
To achieve this, we first prepared the area, ensuring to properly protect the surrounding finishes. We then slowly and meticulously took down the internal framing of the walk-in closet, preserving the integrity of the adjoining rooms. Once the demolition was done, we re-routed the existing wiring to fit the new layout, and included new switches and hallway lighting for utility and future safety.
Next, we framed the new hallway walls, taking special attention to tie them into the existing structural frames. This was followed by the inclusion of new doors and trimmings to match the home’s unique style. Simultaneously, we re-structured the closet, preserving its function while reducing its size, and included door openings for both the new hallway and access to the revised closet.
Upon completing the framing and rough-ins, we installed new drywall and blended seams, applied multiple coats of joint compound for a smooth finish, followed by sanding and priming. We then added the final touch-ups in the adjacent rooms to provide a cohesive, finished appearance.
